Fête de la Truffe – Sarlat’s January Truffle Festival

Each mid-January, the medieval heart of Sarlat-la-Canéda in the Dordogne becomes a lively celebration of the iconic black Périgord truffle — the “diamant noir” of French gastronomy. In 2026, the festival takes place on 17 & 18 January with plenty to savour and experience.

Over this gourmet weekend:
• A bustling truffle market fills Place de la Liberté with fresh truffles, regional products and truffle-themed delicacies.

Workshops, tastings and cooking demonstrations invite everyone from curious food lovers to seasoned gourmets to learn about truffles — from identification to culinary uses.
• Chefs from the region showcase their skills, and special

menus and tasting stages add to the festive atmosphere.

• Demonstrations of truffle hunting with dogs and guided experiences shine a light on the traditional craft behind this prized fungi.

Set against the charming cobblestone streets of Sarlat, this weekend is a must-visit for lovers of French gastronomy and local tradition — an unforgettable way to celebrate one of Périgord’s greatest culinary treasures.
